Our History

The subdivision property was acquired by a group of local businessmen under the name of Cumming-Forsyth Enterprises Inc. The subdivision plot was recorded on November 18, 1987 in Forsyth County records.

Sherwood Forest was one of the first subdivisions on the western side of Forsyth County that was developed using articles of protective covenants and restrictions. In addition Sherwood Forest was developed in such a way that an individual could choose a home site and present his or her own set of plans for construction. This combination has led to a unique community due to various home styles throughout the subdivision. The first homes were occupied in 1988. Building has continued over the last fifteen years with the subdivision for the most part being built out.

In 1989 an organizational meeting was held by a group of volunteer neighbors. This meeting led to the formation of Sherwood Forest Homeowners Association. Control of the common areas, pool and tennis courts and implementation of enforcing the protective covenants and restrictions was turned over by the developers to this newly formed association. The homeowners association has been blessed with many dedicated and talented individuals over the years to efficiently operate and maintain Sherwood Forest. In addition to overseeing the operation of the association, this group has been successful in addressing zoning concerns on surrounding property. The board of directors understands with growth comes change.

By taking common sense approaches and diplomatic actions to the table positive results have been achieved. The board will continue to follow that approach as our community grows. Our large 0.75 to 1 acre lots, friendly neighbors, and common areas have fostered a family oriented community. The members of Sherwood Forest are dedicated to maintaining the properties and involve themselves in the community. This has led to a place we are all proud to call home.
